Our area offers a full range of recreational activities including kayak, and canoe rentals, golf, indoor community swimming pool, excellent camping facilities, breathtaking snowmobile, cross country skiing and snowshoeing trails, mountain bike and ATV trails, and scenic walking and hiking trails. Reservable and first come first serve camp sites at Price County Forestry and Parks.
The Phillips area also provides a wonderful array of accommodations including motel rooms, vacation homes and cabin rentals, lakeside resorts and lodges both in town and lakefront.
Natural resources abound! There are over a million acres of national, state, and county forests surrounding the area for public hunting, fishing and recreations. The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest covers more than 1.5 million acres of Wisconsin’s Northwoods, covering about 858,400 acres in Ashland, Bayfield, Sawyer, Price, Taylor and Vilas counties. Our area holds some of the best public hunting lands in the state with over 300,000 acres of public forest lands. The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, Flambeau River State Forest and Price County Forest together form a vast wilderness area that supports an excellent population of Northwoods wildlife.
The Phillips Chain of Lakes offers trophy fishing; roaming our waters are walleye, musky, northern pike, perch, black crappie, large and small mouth bass, trout and pan fish. In September, you’ll even have the unique opportunity to fish for sturgeon. 18,000 acres of water, including 174 lakes, several trout streams, three major rivers including the Elk River, Flambeau Rivers and the Jump Rivers, provide the perfect setting for those that want to fish, flat water paddle, or whitewater canoe and kayak.
Over 550 miles of perfectly groomed snowmobile trails which are well known as some of the most scenic and best maintained trails in Wisconsin. Opportunities include trails through Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, the Tuscobia State Trail from Park Falls to Rice Lake, the Pine Line Rail Trail from Prentice to Medford, including a side trip to the highest geographical point in Wisconsin – Timm’s Hill, and numerous connecting trails.
